ELEVATED TANK

An elevated tank usually has two functions. It is a water reservoir that provides the citizen with drinking water and fire-fighting water. In addition, its height ensures sufficient and constant water pressure in the area it supplies. The volume of the elevated tank depends on the size of the supply area.

PUMP STATION

If the perforated tank is higher than the waterworks, it must be filled via a pumping station. The pumps are electrically operated and require a lot of energy. This depends on the height to be overcome.

PRESSURE REDUCTION SYSTEM

With a pressure reduction system, the water pressure in the pipe network is reduced. This is necessary if the existing water pressure is so high that there is a danger to the pipe network and the individual fittings. The pressure in the supply network should be between 3 and max. 10 bar. In order to protect the pipe network in a building against too much pressure, each water meter system therefore includes an additional pressure reducing device, for which the owner is responsible.

SPRING COLLECTION BASIN

A spring is a place where groundwater emerges at the surface of the ground. Mostly it is groundwater fed from precipitation. Only in rare cases does the water come from deeper parts of the earth's interior. If the water runs freely from the ground, it is a so-called descending spring. Here the pressure at the outlet is equal to the atmospheric pressure. If the water exits at a certain pressure, the water pressure is greater than the atmospheric pressure. Then one speaks of an artesian spring.

DEEP WELLS

If the groundwater reservoir lies deep in the ground, it can be tapped via a well bore. The water is then pumped out of the ground with a pump. Deep wells can be from about 20 m to over 100 m deep. This groundwater reservoir is also fed by precipitation.

PROCESSING PLANT

In the treatment plant, the raw water obtained from springs, deep wells or dams is purified and processed into drinking water. The treatment process differs depending on the quality of the water to be purified. In groundwater or spring water, the ground passage serves as a natural Filter. The purification effort for the production of drinking water is usually much lower here than, for example, with surface water from a dam. For this reason, drinking water is only obtained from reservoirs in regions with low groundwater reserves. The quality of the drinking water must comply with the strict requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance and is monitored by regular inspections.
