In meteorology, the term precipitation refers to water that falls to the earth from clouds in liquid or solid form (rain, hail, snow, sleet). The precipitation is therefore formed in the clouds. These are caused by condensation of moisture in the air. In order to be able to fall on the earth's surface again as precipitation, the size of the condensed particles must exceed a certain value. The precipitation closes the water cycle.
