In the media station, you will find information on water consumption in jeans production as well as access to the "TWIST online" drinking water information system.
Drinking water is vital for us and cannot be replaced, so we often call it "food no. 1". In Rhineland-Palatinate, the results of drinking water analyses are recorded in a central database. This data can be displayed here by all citizens via the Internet application "TWIST online".
The search for current analyses can be carried out via the following address field. As soon as three or more characters are entered for an address (street and city), a matching hit list is displayed. The more characters you enter, the more accurate the address list will be. The selection "Data" displays the aggregated analyses for the coverage area of this address, the selection "Map" displays the corresponding area.

From cotton plantation to jeans
It is worn and produced all over the world. Their production results in enormous amounts of virtual water: 11,000 litres of water per piece. Even the cultivation of cotton is very water-intensive. The virtual water is mainly contained in the machines and the energy they need. A jeans consists of up to 60 individual parts. Stonewashed, bleached and 3D effects are achieved using chemicals, washing machines, but also lasers, grindstones and brushes. Up to 100 steps are required to make a pair of jeans, plus packaging, shipping to Europe and unpacking. Take a look at the map in our virtual water exhibition and compare, for example, the production of paper and recycled paper.
