Construction of the Primstal pumping station

The pumping station Primstal was built as one of the most important structures of the connecting line between the Primstal dam and the Steinbachtal dam in Nonnweiler. 3 pumps deliver the required amount of water (max. 840 cubic meters) via the 15 km long connecting line to the intermediate reservoir "Wasserschloss" in Hattgenstein.

The DN 500 drinking water pipeline was laid over a length of approx. 400 m at a depth of up to 8.76 m. The water supply system was installed in the form of a water pipe. In two construction phases, the first step was to construct the sloped excavation pit with laterally arranged drainage pipes up to the required excavator installation area up to 4.9 m below ground level, secured with a system shoring and the installation of the water pipe was carried out.

Hattgenstein moated castle

The moated castle is an intermediate reservoir at the high point of Hattgenstein, at the junction of the Primstal and Steinbachtal dams. In the two round basins, the water is temporarily stored for further use. The pools are covered with earth in the finished state to protect them from heating. From here water flows in a free gradient to the waterworks at the Steinbachtal dam.

Valve building Sensweiler

In addition to the two pipelines of the Primstal pipeline, a supra-local drinking water pipeline is also integrated into the valve building. This will enable drinking water to be fed into various supply networks in the future.

Laying the double pipeline

A double pipeline was laid from the Hattgenstein slide shaft to the Steinbachtalsperre waterworks. Initially, raw water is pumped in both pipes to the Steinbachtal dam. In the future, however, it will be possible to pump drinking water from the Steinbachtal dam to the Hattgenstein elevated tank.

House connection

The picture shows the renewal of a house connection. The renewed house connection line branches off from the supply line (horizontal). The blue gate valve, which connects the supply line and the house connection line, can be operated via a linkage from the future road surface. The yellow line is a gas supply line. The house connection line is usually laid in a black protective pipe and ends at the water meter of the consumer.

The electronics technician for industrial engineering is a three-and-a-half-year training occupation. In the operation of the water association, he looks after, maintains and repairs the electrical and electronic systems of the water supply. This also includes the measurement and control technology of the treatment plant as well as the elevated tanks and pumping stations.

The water technician is a professional further education. He organises, monitors and documents the operation of the water supply facilities to ensure optimum water quality. This includes water extraction, water treatment, water storage and distribution. He is also a trainer in the field of supply engineering and leads his employees.

Plant mechanic for supply engineering

The plant mechanic for supply engineering is also a three-and-a-half-year training occupation. In the operation of the water association he looks after, maintains and repairs the mechanical systems of the water supply. In addition, he is also responsible for taking water samples and maintaining the water quality measuring instruments.
